Are you itching for the date when you can finally whip out a hammer to break into your piggy back, so you slap down some green for a Samsung Galaxy S III? If so, Amazon may be your first shot, but there is one string attached, you may need your sister’s and brother’s piggy bank… and possibly Mom or Dad’s wallet.
Amazon has just listed the Galaxy S III up for pre-order, for a whopping $800 bucks! That’s a hefty price tag for a phone, but for that price you get pride, pride in knowing that you are the first amongst your friends to own one of the most powerful Android devices on the planet (at least for a month or so). You’ll also get Samsung’s 1.4GHz quad-core Exynos processor, which apparently won’t be coming along when the Galaxy S III is released in the States.
On the bad side, you’ll also lose support for LTE, as the European model will not support 4G LTE. As for carriers on which the Galaxy S III will work on in the States, AT&T is about it, assuming you want data. While the it will work on T-Mobile for phone calls, the Galaxy S III doesn’t support T-Mo’s 1700MHz data bands. The GS III will however be able to utilize AT&T’s HSPA+, so if you don’t have 4G LTE coverage in your area, you may not miss the it, but is it work $800? That’s for you are financial situation to decide.
Amazon’s site lists the arrival of the unlocked Galaxy S III as June 1st, we’ll have to wait and see if that date holds up, with the “official” U.S. expected later that month, purchasing this device for $8000, may not be the most economical idea.
