A Verizon rep has told TechCrunch that “Big Red” has placed a vacation blackout on the dates of September 21st through September 30. Why? The release of the new iPhone of course…
This is not unheard of, but we usually hear this from an AT&T source first. Either way, It’s been rumored for a few weeks that the new iPhone will be announced at an Apple event to be held on September 12th, with the new phone going on sale 9 days later (September 21st).
This follows closely with Apple’s release history, as last year they announced the iPhone 4S on Tuesday October 4th, accepted pre-orders on Friday, October 7th and the 4S went on sale a week later, on October 14th. Why Apple has decided to start pre-orders on the same day as the announcement is anyone’s guess, but it may just allow them to announce bigger pre-order numbers prior to the devices launch, by tacking on an additional three days.
Either way, it looks more and more like these dates are dead on.
