Over the weekend we reported on a rumor that Twitter was looking to add photo filters within their official app. It appears that the rumor was true, as Twitter rolled out the update to both the iPhone and Android versions today. The update brings with it, eight new filters labeled as vignette, black and white, warm, cool, vintage, cinematic, happy, and gritty. Twitter’s decision to add filters comes as a direct strike back against Instagram, who recently pulled support for Twitter cards, which previously allowed users to post their Instagram pictures directly to their Twitter feed. In addition to the new filters, Twitter users will be able to crop, zoom and use their auto-image enhancement.
For its new update, Twitter worked with the company Aviary, (a company who has already worked with other social companies including Imgur, Flickr, as well as Yahoo Mail) who built the new filters for Twitter from scratch.
As we’ve mentioned earlier, in a previous post, now that Twitter has entered into the “photo filter” game, we fully expect Instagram to cross over into to the social messaging genre, by allowing users to update their feed with character limited updates.
