If asked what is one of the most downloaded smartphone games, most people would probably say Angry Birds. But a small company named Imangi Studios is looking to give those folks in Finland a run for their money. Temple Run, created by Imangi Studios, was a massive hit and has been downloaded over 170 million times on multiple OS’s and platforms, so it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that the studio’s sequel, Temple Run 2, is another success.
What is surprising, is how fast the game is being downloaded. In just the first day, it was downloaded over 6 million times, in the title’s first four days, it crossed the 20 million mark, easily capturing the title of the number one free download app on iTunes. in fact, what’s more astounding, is that Temple Run 2 has amassed 20 million downloads on just iOS alone. In comparison, Rovio’s Angry Birds Space—another number one title—hit 10 million downloads in three days, but it was also available on iOS, Android and the Mac platforms. Imangi still has other platforms on which it hasn’t released Temple Run 2, like Google’s Android and Amazon’s AppStore, so its numbers should just continue to grow.
Another shocker is that Temple Run 2, which is free-to-play, is also the top Grossing App on the iTunes store, meaning users who have downloaded the game, are actually paying for in-game content, enough to boost the app to the top of the list.
Temple Run 2 is available now on the iTunes App Store for free.
