Samsung to discontinue use of Windows Phone 7 after December?

Previously, we heard rumors that Samsung would drop Android in favor of its own mobile phone OS, Bada 2.0. This news came after the purchase of Motorola by Google. While the industry thought that would be a foolish move, considering how Android has helped Samsung climb the ladder to success and sell more units then ever.

Well now we have rumors that Samsung may drop Microsoft’s struggling Window Phone 7 handset after this year, ending in December. While this is still a rumor, it does have a little more credit to it than the Android rumor. While Android has helped Samsung reach great heights, WP7 hasn’t done anything to bloster Samsung sales and with WP7 having 1% or less in total marketshare, it could be considered a losing battle and loss in revenue for Samsung. Not to mention the Microsoft/Nokia deal is really not that different than Google owning Motorola. With Sammy only having about 1-2 WP7 devices in the pipeline, that may be all she wrote.

Again nothing is official so we’ll have to wait and find out. But I wouldn’t be surprised if this turns out to be true. I could see Samsung say, that while they are not going to make any more WP7 devices now, they are going to continue to monitor the success of it and well revisit the OS in the future if it feels like a good fit for their company. You know, the typical PR bullshit.
