Some leaked photos were sent to the folks over at GSM Arena and after examining them, we’re going to call them fakes. While it’s entirely possibly that these images could be of a real device, it would be assumed that they are nothing more than images of a prototype that won’t see the light of day. For one, Apple is well known for remaking an “S” iPhone in pretty much the same basic design as the previous model, with improved internals and software tweaks. This type of design, while maintaining the same bottom as the iPhone 5, seems like a rather drastic change for an S device.
Who knows? Will Apple will even release an iPhone 5S or will they opt to just go straight to the iPhone 6? If history says anything, it’s that Apple will play it safe and release an updated iPhone 5. At this time, Apple desperately needs to shock and awe the public with something new, but that doesn’t mean we’ll get it. The iPhone 5 required a whole new display and required developers to retro-fit their apps, would Apple really do it again with another screen increase in under a year? I doubt it. What about the lack of the home button? Did Apple have enough time to remove that functionality from iOS 7, which may not even be ready by the time a new iPhone is released? Not to mention, there are no volume controls on the side of this device, which leads us to believe it’s nothing more than a clever rendering based off a newly granted patent that Apple received.
Does this design look familiar? I’m not going to say the rendering isn’t cool, but I highly doubt that Apple will break from their typical pattern. This device is fake, pure and simple. We may see a redesigned iPhone but it will be for the 6, not the 5S, and I doubt it will look like the pictures above.
