With the release of the iPad 3/HD looming in just two days, we hope you’re ready for another slew of tablet rumors as we shift to the on again/off again, Nexus tablet from Google. With the success of Amazon’s 7-inch Kindle Fire tablet, word on the street is that Google is looking to prepare not just an iPad killer, but a Kindle Fire extinguisher.

Google isn’t prepared to allow Amazon to hi-jack it’s OS and app market, so it appears that they are looking to partner with one of the hottest Android tablet makers, ASUS.

Google is looking to create a new 7-inch tablet that will be priced at $199.99, to compete directly with Amazon’s Kindle Fire. Rumors peg the possible Nexus tablet as using an NVIDIA Tegra 3, quad-core processor, which despite the cheap price, is possible. ASUS, is even the company who’s proving it, with the quad-core, Android powered MeMo tablet, which just happens to also be 7-inches.

It is possible that the Nexus tablet could be a variation of the MeMo tablet, but we don’t know for sure. We’ll have to wait until Google I/O to see if the search giant and ASUS make something official. As for now, this one remains in the the rumor column.
