We just got a tip for a trusted source who works for AT&T and has been hard at work on a “confidential” project for the iPhone 5/4s. From what I’ve been told, we can expect the next iPhone to come with NFC capabilities. Apparently, this has been kept quiet as they were not sure if it was going to make the next version of the iPhone or not.

I’ve been reassured that the “next” iPhone will indeed have NFC, BUT this is coming from someone inside AT&T, so I can not validate whether or not this technology will be in Verizon, T-Mobile or Sprint’s variant, so we’ll just have to wait and see. While I can’t imagine Apple giving one carrier the NFC exclusive, money talks and exclusives are everything, especially with the iPhone launching on four carriers this time around. Once this source replies back, I will be seeing if the NFC chip will ship in only the iPhone 5 or will it be in the cheaper iPhone 4S as well, if in fact there are two different devices.

I do want stress to everyone to take this as a rumor right now, BUT I am working with this source to see if we can produce “something” to validate his/her claims. Obviously, anything pertaining to Apple within AT&T is going to be highly confidential and guarded, so right now I’m playing the waiting game to see if they can provide us some type of visual proof to prove this is more than just a rumor.
