Update: Earlier today, when this story broke over at Know Your Mobile, I felt like it was dead wrong, so I sent a tweet over to Jim Dalrymple of the great site, The Loop, who’s debunked more of these type of rumors in the past. If you’re not familiar with Jim, you need to be, the man not only has great contacts inside of Apple (hence his ability to accurately debunk these types of rumors), he’s also a really funny guy and has a wicked beard—or the wicked beard has a funny guy, not sure—either way, Jim responded with a simple one word answer, “Nope.” There you have it, I’m taking Dalrymple’s word on this one. Sorry, Know Your Mobile, apparently, you don’t “know” this one. See what I did there… oh, nevermind. Anyway, consider this rumored debunked, false, not true, or whatever other adjective you’d prefer.

You may have recently seen the image above (and those in gallery below), which shows off the “rumored” iPhone 5/6, but what you may not have seen—or heard—is the rumored announcement date for Apple’s latest and greatest. According to KnowYourMobile, who is citing a “reliable” source, Apple will be holding a press event on August 7th to unveil the new iPhone.
While this date isn’t out of the realm of possibilities, this is the first we’ve heard of it and no other site seems to have heard anything, especially someone as connect as Jim Dalrymple of the Loop. So we’re tagging this one with the “rumor” status, at least for now. That being said, it is possible that Apple has moved up the iPhone’s announcement to get the phone out before they announce the new 7.85-inch iPad, which at this point is also a rumor. Then there’s the possibility that this iPhone design is a fake and has been purposely leaked by Apple to throw journalists off their scent. A lot of things could happen between now and then, we’ll see if we can find more info.
