Amazon and the Kindle fire aren’t the only ones seeing record sales of the e-Reader/Tablet products. Barnes & Noble and their Nook line, which includes the new Nook Tablet, Nook Color and Nook Touch have all contributed to B&N’s record holiday season. The bookseller said that profits, compared to a year ago, have gone up by 70% during the 9 week holiday season (4th quarter). During that same time, B&N saw an increase of over 113% in their digital content sales.
Due to these high sale numbers, B&N is looking at the possibility of branching the Nook line out on its own. This new division would run as a separate business and they want to see about taking the Nook over seas. There is a lot of money to be made branching the Nook out on its own, but one thing that the Nook has had that Amazon hasn’t is its in store service for the Nook. If B&N create a separate business with the Nook, how does that affect its in store service and repair?
