Seems that the Motorola XOOM can’t catch a break. After reports came out last week that the XOOM had barely sold 100,000 units now comes word from yet another one of those famous people I love, analysts, who claims the XOOM has only sold a max amount of 120K, at best. Trip Chowdry of Global Equities made his statements today and claimed that Motorola expected to sell around 3-5 million units of the XOOM, but thus far has only produced about 500-800 thousand, which is only about 5-15%.
If that wasn’t bad enough for Motorola, how about some gasoline for that pit fire? Chowdry spoke of a worst case scenario in that the XOOM has really only sold a minute 25,000 units. Honestly, I think it cost more to make and advertise the XOOM superbowl ad than the XOOM has even made as a profit this far.
Motorola is going to be giving its quarterly earnings and sales numbers this thursday, so we’ll have to wait for “real” number until then, but I don’t expect them to be very positive. In fact, if your lucky and hold out you might be able to pick up a discounted one at Best Buy right next to another failed Motorola product, the $29 Atrix 4G.
