While most of the world looked at Microsoft’s new logo yesterday and said, ah, refreshing, nice to see Microsoft move into the future after 25 years, graphic designer Andrew Brett Watson, saw something else. Dealing with fonts on a daily basis for several years, Watson noticed that Microsoft’s new logo, which claims to use the”Segeo” font that they own, looked like they borrowed Apple’s Myriad Pro font and the look of the MacBook Pro logo as a starting point.
With some very slight modification, which can all be done in Adobe’s Illustrator, you can easily take Apple’s MacBook Pro logo and make the new Microsoft logo in five easy steps. Check out Watson’s diagram below. While we’re not saying Microsoft did this, we’re just posting it because we find it humorous, and honestly, slightly intriguing.
To quote the great comedian Brian Regan, “Well now that you see it, I mean, if you put them side by side, and compare them, when you really take into consideration, when you really weight it…” Having my BFA in Graphic Design as well, I can honestly say, this isn’t really that far of a sketch. But, if you’re not convinced at intrigued by Watson’s point, perhaps you’d prefer 9to5Google’s idea that Microsoft just lifted the design from Google’s Chrome logo?? Hmm…
Sort of eerie isn’t?
