At the iPad event today in San Francisco, Apple announced that the iOS update, 5.1, would be available starting today and rolling out over the next few weeks in Japan. Speaking of Japan, iOS 5.1 bring Japanese language support to Siri, Apple’s voice control personal assistant.

Aside from the new language support, iOS 5.1 also fixes the battery woes that many people have been experiencing, especially on the iPhon 4S. Users requested it and Apple listened, photos can now be deleted from Photo Stream in the new update. Another big change, is the addition to the camera button being placed on the unlock screen, permanently. Simply slide left to right to unlock and now bottom to top, to use the camera.

The iPad version has also received an updated camera app. There are a few other details in iOS 5.1, which can all be found below in the update’s feature list. iOS 5.1 comes in at 206MB and can be downloaded right now, over the air via Wi-Fi.
