Here’s a bit of a shocker, Marissa Mayer, the former Google Vice President of Local, Maps, and Location Services, who is now the new CEO over at Yahoo, allegedly wants all Yahoo employees to use iPhones. In fact, she is willing to have Yahoo foot the million dollar plus bill to make it happen. Mayer wants employees to be on the same page and create a sense of consistency throughout the company.
These claims come from a source close to Yahoo who spoke with BusinessInsider:
Apparently, Yahoo employees use all sorts of different devices – BlackBerrys, iPhones, Androids, whatever – and Mayer believes the company would be better off if it identified one device/platform on which it should make its products really shine, and got employees used to what it’s like living with that platform… The cost to Yahoo would be a couple million dollars or less – chump change for a company that has billions lying around.
It sounds like Mayer wants Yahoo to create apps, specifically for the iPhone and oddly enough, not for Google. Mayer who was with Google for 13 years and held several key positions has apparently been a fan of the iPhone for quiet some time (see the image above, prior to her Google departure) and apparently now that she’s out of the GooglePlex, she’s free to pursue avenues with the iPhone that were previously unavailable to her.
While this may not come as a financial blow to Google, it still must feel like a hit below the belt, that one of their own long time employees prefers the iPhone over Android.
