We’ve just received a tip, coming out of GameStop’s corporate manager’s meeting in Texas, that the nation’s largest game retailer is going to be launching their own branded Android tablet this holiday season with some type of a gaming service. Along with their own tablet, Gamestop is also suppose to sell some new unknown Acer tablet, that this anonymous source tells me will be priced at a very high $700. This seems a little high to be an Android tablet, so perhaps it may be a Windows RT device, the time frame certain fits.
Finally, the big news out of the managers conference today, is that later this year, Gamestop will begin selling phones on their own plans, an unlimited talk, text and data plan for only $40 a month. These new plans will be using AT&T’s network, so far that is all the news I have, the source just left a meeting and details are supposedly “very tight.”
So it looks like Gamestop is moving towards the mobile market now that traditional game sales have begun to decline. Anyway, when I get more detailed information, like what phones Gamestop will offer and what exactly their gaming service will be for their tablet, I’ll be sure to post it right away.
