While we wait for Apple to release its official sales data of the iPhone 5 during its third quarter earnings report, scheduled for October 5th, we may have an early glimpse of what’s to come thanks to the mobile ad firm, Chitika. Chitka has ran the numbers and during a test, Oct. 3-9, which included the US and Canada, the iPhone 5 has taken the top spot in terms of web consumption over Samsung’s Galaxy S III.
So what does that tell us? Well, essentially, the iPhone 5 already has a larger audience despite the fact that it has only been available for about 18 days, compared to the Galaxy S III, which has been on sale in both countries since June. Haters and detractors can say whatever they want about Apple and the fact that it has a smaller screen than the Galaxy S III’s 4.8-inch monster, but the public has spoken. So far, we know that Apple sold over 5 million iPhone 5′s in just the first weekend, now that the device is rolling out across more countries and devices are shipping to those who have been waiting patiently for the past 2-3 weeks, that number is expected to grow, eclipsing the sales of the Galaxy S III in a fraction of the time.
That being said, don’t feel to bad for ol’ Samsung, despite the massive sales of the iPhone 5, their Galaxy S III is selling very and firmly places Samsung atop the heap of Android OEM’s, in fact they’re about the only ones posting a real profit, unlike HTC and Motorola (who’s owned by Google).
Either way, it looks like Apple’s latest and greatest is going to continue to drive the market as the device continues to launch in new territories across the world.
