Today is the day millions of Apple fans have been waiting for, the release day of the smaller iPad… the iPad Mini. As you can see, we have ours in hand and will be spending some time with it before giving our review, but I can tell you that if you read elsewhere that it was impossibly light, it’s absolutely true.

While Apple may be sold out online, retail stores like Best Buy opened up at 8am this morning, which is where we grabbed ours, but I can tell you that their supply was going quickly. So if you have a long enough lunch break and a retailer close by, that would be the time to stop in and pick one up.

As for the display… yes, it’s not a Retina display, but honestly, it’s not that bad. In fact, it’s really nice, it’s bright, the colors are gorgeous and I think most people will be completely satisfied.

The iPad Mini features a 7.9-inch display with a resolution of 1024 x 768, a dual core A5 chip, WiFi, accelerometer, a 5-megapixel rear camera, an HD iSight camera for Facetime, an extremely thin and lightweight aluminum design and comes in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB storage options for $329, $429 and $529 respectively. As with the normal iPad, users will have access to the 275K iPad optimized apps and the entire library of over 700K apps on the App Store.
