Apple’s Eddy Cue suggested 7-inch iPad to Steve Jobs, who seemed receptive

During the Apple vs. Samsung trial today, Samsung presented an email from Eddy Cue to Tim Cook, Scott Forstall and Phil Schiller, where Cue suggested to Steve Jobs (prior to his passing obviously) that Apple should make a 7-inch iPad. Cue read an online review of the 7-inch Galaxy Tab which was titled, “Why I just dumped the iPad, hint: Size Matters.” Cue said that he agreed with many of the points in the review, with the exception of dumping the iPad.

Cue goes on to say to that it was a great size for books, Facebook and email but that web surfing was still inferior to the iPad’s 9.8-inch display. He goes on to say that he pitched the idea to Jobs several times around Thanksgiving (2010) and the last time he seemed very receptive, despite the fact that Jobs said that they’d never do a tablet that size, as it just didn’t “work.” Keep in mind, Jobs said that Apple wouldn’t do a phone or a tablet… I think we can see the pattern. Perhaps before he passed away, Jobs gave his blessing to Cook and Company to create the 7-inch iPad, which is rumored to be released later this year.

The email is below.

Personally I would buy an iPad mini before a regular iPad. From my time with one, I just feel it is too big and a 7 inch screen is a happy medium.

After using my Nexus 7 for a few weeks, I have to say that a 7-inch tablet is very nice and portable. I wish it had cellular service, as I love that about my iPad. But like Cue, I agree, the iPad is superior when it come to browsing the web. Overall, i thoroughly both sizes.
