It looks like Apple is following Amazon’s plan to give away, top tier apps for free. According to a tweet via @AppStore, Apple is giving away the game “Cut the Rope: Experiments” as part of their “Free App of the Week” promotion. While slightly different than Amazon’s, “Free App of the Day,” Apple’s plan, or so it appears, is to give away one premium app for a whole week. I’m not exactly sure how developers feel about their app being free for that amount of time, unless of course Apple is somehow compensating them for the loss.

We’re not sure how often Apple plans to do this promotion or even if each “App of the Week” will be free, as they’ve made no official announcement. However, in the Tweet above, they do use the hashtag “#FreeAppoftheWeek, so that’s encouraging that perhaps this is a new, on-going promotion. Either way, there’s a great game on the App Store, for free, so go snag it while you can.
