Well rumors were true, Apple updated its popular iPod Touch and like the new iPhone 5, it’ll feature a 4-inch display, an updated A5 processor, a 5-megapixel camera with a backside illuminated sensor, an f/2.4 lens and the same five element lens as the iPhone 4S. On the front side, Apple updated the front facing camera to a 1.3-megapixel camera that can shoot 720p video. Apple has done an amazing job designing the new Touch, they’ve incorporated so many details into the frame that’s only 6.1mm thin and it only weights 88grams (think 88 paperclips). With the new A5 and battery, the new iPod Touch can play over 40 hours of music, play 8 hours of continuous video.
New to this years Touch, aside from the new chassis, are the color choices. While the front remains white, Apple has added 5 new colors, plain raw aluminum, blue, yellow, red(ish), and black (the black is the only unit that features a black glass front, the rest are white). On the back of the iPod Touch, there is a silver disk in the lower left corner, this is being called the “loop.” The loop will allow users to attach a wrist band.
Finally, the new iPod Touch comes in two storage sizes, 32GB and 64GB, which will retail for $299 and $399 respectively. Pre-orders for the new iPod Touch start on Friday, September 14, the same day as the new iPhone 5. Of course, if you’d prefer to spend less money, Apple is keeping the 16GB iPod Touch (4th Gen) on sale for $199.
