So it looks like last week’s Free App of the Week, Cut the Rope: Experiments, on the Apple App Store wasn’t just a fluke. While Apple still hasn’t publicly acknowledge this new free app promotion, the Cupertino company has put up another free app of the week, this time it’s the iPad App of the Year and TIPA’s Best Mobile Photo App of the Year (2012), Snapseed.
Created by Nik Software, Snapseed, which is normally a premium app priced at $4.99, is a cross between Instagram and iPhoto. The photo apps gives users greater control when editing their photos, such as offering new crop tools, so you can crop images to exact proportions, like 5×7 or even perfect squares for sharing in apps like Instagram. As with most photo apps these days, there is a bevy of fun photo filters you can apply to your images, making them depressingly blue or classically vintage and everything in between.
Snapseed is a universal app, meaing it works on the iPhone, iPod Touch and the iPad, in fact, in the most recent update, version 1.4, Nik Software added support for the new iPad’s Retina display as well as support for iOS 5.1.
If you’ve been eying up this app for some time and $4.99 was just to much, grab it will you can, it should be interesting to see what app will show up next week. So far, it seems like Apple is picking high quality apps to give away.
