Update: It appears as though Apple is experiencing some heavy stress with their website. They may not have officially halted pre-orders as original expected, but their site is diffidently giving some customers a battle, by allowing some to order and not others. Some folks are even reporting a “we will return message.” While testing the site, we personally got the following message.

apple were sorry Updated: Apple halts iPhone 5 pre orders after only 8 hours

So as to what is going on, other then heavy traffic, we don’t know for sure. But, if you’re trying to order, don’t give up until you hear Apple say they have officially stopped, some customers are still getting through. Just don’t expect to get one on launch day.

After only being available for 8 hours, Apple put a stop to the iPhone 5 pre-orders. If you visit the Apple.com store, you’ll be able to go up to the point where you pick your carrier, however, it won’t allow you to select one. It still shows the 2 week shipping for the device, but without any way to choose a carrier, customers who don’t mind waiting are still out of luck. We’ve also heard that Verizon is now showing delayed shipments for their next wave, to the 26th, which could also be pushed back further as more pre-orders continue to pile up.

We want to re-assure those of you who pre-ordered the iPhone 5 through Apple’s site at 12:01am PST (3:01pm EST) or at least within an hour it became available, your order is safe and will arrive on schedule. With the massive popularity and interest in this phone, we fully expect to see shipping fall back into the middle to late October.
