We knew it would only be a matter of time before Apple shut down Chomp’s searching ability via its Android app, now that they bought the company. But it looks like it’s official now, confirmed by GigaOM, Chomp’s app on the Android no longer works and the company has removed “Android” as an option to search on its website.

Apple purchased Chomp for $50 million so that they could incorporate its search functionality into its App store and presumably, iOS. When the deal was done, we knew Android’s support would be killed off eventually, but Chomp also had a deal with Verizon to power its Android app, which we can only assume that deal will be killed off as well.
