In what seems like a bit of odd timing, Apple has just listed a new (Product) RED bumper for the iPhone 4 and 4S on their online store for the typical price of $29.99, like the rest of their bumpers. The timing of this bumper is odd, especially when you consider we’re now under a month away from the announcement of the next iPhone. Why it took nearly two years to get this bump to the market is baffling, but perhaps later, is better than never. Plus, with the iPhone 4S most likely dropping to $99 and the iPhone 4 taking the 3GS’s place as the “free” iPhone, both of which will continue to support bumpers, perhaps it’s not that bad of an idea after all.
For those of you unfamiliar with (Product) Red, it is a private organization started by U2 singer Bono and a few others to combat Aids in Africa, every product labeled with the (RED) logo, gives 50% of its revenue to the cause. So far, the (Product) RED brand has raised over $150 million dollars to fight HIV and Aids from such companies as; Nike, American Express, Gap, Converse, Hallmark, Starbucks, Apple and quite a few more.
