Here we are about to celebrate a royal wedding in a few days and now we get news of another King, Android. It appears that customers are dying to get their hands on the adorable little green robot.  As Nielsen reports, Android is now the most preferred mobile phone from customers planning to buy a new phone in the next 12 months, up from it’s previous 26% to now 31%. Apple is just behind the Mountain View monster with 30% and RIM is now down to a low 11%.

As for consumers that have already bought a smartphone in the last 6 months, Google’s Android counted for nearly half of all those purchases. As for the current market share the Android OS stands at 37% compared to iOS which is at 27% and RIM not fairing as badly at 22%. Microsoft’s re-entry into the mobile space, Windows Phone 7, came in with just 10% and finally Palm and Symbian with 3% and 2% respectively.
