Let’s see, E-Reader – check, MP3′s – Check, App Store – Check, Cloud Storage – Check, Smart phone? – Pending, World Domination – T-Minus…, Those guys at Amazon are not content to just sit back and let Apple or Google have all the fun. As if beating Apple and Google to the cloud wasn’t enough, Amazon has decided to use its newly made App Store (pending legal action with Apple for the name) with a new smart phone. Yes, Amazon is entering the smart phone market with an Android powered beast. The phone will be sporting the same 1.2GHz Dual Core Qualcomm processor as the upcoming EVO 3D on Sprint. The screen is a 4.3″ Mirasol display, which apparently when using black on the display require no backlight making it very battery friendly. Below is a list of all the rumored specs:
- 4.3-inch Mirasol display
- 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8660 processor
- 512MB of RAM
- 32GB of internal storage
- 8GB microSD card included
- 1.3MP front-facing camera
- 5MP rear camera
- MHL (Mobile High-Definition Link) port for both microUSB and microHDMI
- DLNA connectivity
- Possible NFC chip – we haven’t been able to confirm this, but given recent rumors, it’s a strong possibility
- Bluetooth 2.1/3.0
- GSM/HSPA+ on AT&T and possibly a Verizon variant, but we’re not sure yet
- 9.25mm thick
- 120g weight
- 1700mAh Lithium Ion battery
- Solar panel on battery cover (hope you get a lot of sun in your area)
The idea of the solar panel and mirasol display and 1700 mAh battery obviously shows Amazon’s desire to have a battery that will last as well as having a nice large display, for reading kindle books no doubt.
As you can see from the picture above, the Blaze, as its being called, doesn’t look to different from an HTC EVO (with Samsung Galaxy S buttons). The Solar panel on the back is actually not as bad as one might think it would look with the nice orange to yellow coloring.
While the phone does sound technically impressive there are some downsides, the cameras, front and back, are apparently a little lackluster and the phone won’t be a “pure” Google device. It will be running a version of Android 2.3.x (aka Gingerbread) at launch. Amazon is set to debut the Blaze with a skinned UI
creatively called, Blaze UI. The UI will be laid over Gingerbread much like Motoblur and HTC’s Sense UI and will integrate Amazon’s services like Kindle, Cloud Player and Cloud Storage as well as Amazon’s App Store with great ease.
