Hot off their announcement of the new Kindle line and the Kindle Fire with Android and Amazon Prime, now comes rumors that Amazon is the front runner to scoop up webOS from HP. According to VentureBeat, who claims a “well-placed” source said that HP is looking to get rid of the failed OS and they are close to finalizing a deal with Amazon.

Unless Amazon feels they can some how cross Android and webOS the purchase really makes no sense. With Amazon spending millions to develop its apps for Android, not to mention their own Android App Store, why would Amazon be looking to scoop up webOS?

Personally this is a long shot, but if it does happen, don’t expect any products running the OS for a while. If Amazon were to use webOS, they would definitely re-tool the OS to be able run all of its current programs and apps, maybe to even run Android application, like RIM’s Playbook.

We’ll keep an open ear for more news, but don’t hold your breath on this one.
